The Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Environmental Crimes Task Force is offering free training for Ohio law enforcement on Ohio’s scrap metal laws and scrap metal theft investigations. The instructor is Sergeant Andy Ezzo of the Cleveland Police Department, Officer in Charge of the Environmental Crimes Task Force.  Joining Sgt. Ezzo is a representative of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) to provide information on recycling operations and the industry’s efforts to work with law enforcement in the fight against metals theft.

Officers will gain insights into the law and will learn how scrap metal theft impacts a community by understanding how this crime affects local business and the connection with other crimes and the opioid epidemic.  In addition, officers will be provided instruction on recycling industry operations and ISRI’s ScrapTheftAlert.com system.

For more information, please contact Sgt. Ezzo at aezzo@city.cleveland.oh.us or ISRI Director of Law Enforcement Outreach B. Mills at bmills@isri.org.
